The 100 Year Old Example of Content Marketing – Gallaher Brand Cigarette Cards
I see this as an example of a company giving away information as part of effort to sell product. Did anyone buy (or try) this brand for the cards inside the package? Did Gallaher gain brand recognition with this campaign? We will most like never know the answers to these questions, but it does show that the techniques that we are currently using are not new.
The difference is that we now have the means to measure the success of these types of “informational campaigns.”
