Worst Post Ever

Seth’s Blog: One hit wonders.

I read Seth Godin’s blog and usually find what he posts worth the read.  However, this has to be one of the worst things I have ever read there.

“These are artists who gave up too soon, or lost their nerve when it came to making another leap.
A one-hit wonder is a legend who stopped early.”

It shows a complete lack of understanding of the creative process.  While I understand the intention of the post is to motivate,  to say that someone who has ONLY created one great work or achievement  is someone who “gave up” is just wrong and insulting.

There are those among us who toil their entire lives and never get that “one hit”.  And there are those who only have “one hit” in them.  They should both be celebrated and not branded as quitters.

To quote James T. Kirk in The Ultimate Computer,  “Genius doesn’t work on an assembly line basis. You can’t simply say, ‘Today I will be brilliant.”
